Read His Letter
Some time ago a good friend of mine went through a very difficult circumstance that I knew she would find very painful to talk about. I loved her and wanted to help, but I also wanted to allow her the space she needed to process and come to terms with how she was feeling. So I sent her a short letter to say that I was there for her and was willing to talk as soon as she felt she was ready.
I didn’t know it at the time; but apparently, when my envelope arrived in the mail, she was having a particularly bad day and shoved the unopened missive into the drawer of her desk. That day she wasn’t ready to hear from anyone and she decided to put it aside until she was. Time passed. Silence.
Several months later she called me in tears, saying that she’d been struggling so badly. She had felt that no one cared about her because no one had reached out to her in her time of need. But then, after months of pain, she stumbled upon my forgotten, unopened letter thrust back into the depths of the drawer. She’d opened it and was crying now with regret because she realized that all those months someone had been there for her, waiting until she was ready to talk. She confessed how she’d been angry at me of all people for not reaching out, until she found my letter.
We had a good talk and there was healing, because she finally came to understand that I’d been there all along, though in the stress of the moment she had not known it. This true-life encounter made me think of how many of us find ourselves in a similar position with our heavenly Father. He has written a love letter to us in the Bible, but in the midst of the pain and challenges of life we have thrust His tender message to us into the back of a desk drawer. It lies unopened, and our hearts break because we feel alone and that no one really cares. But He does care, and His love is communicated on every page if we will but open the text!

As we begin this journey together, let me encourage you to open His Word. It is His letter to you, and every page is steeped in love. You are never alone and irrespective of what may lie ahead, He is with you and He will speak into your circumstances daily, as you listen for His voice. Psalm 18:30-31 tells us,
30 As for God, his way is perfect:
The Lord’s word is flawless;
he shields all who take refuge in him.
31 For who is God besides the Lord?
And who is the Rock except our God?
Read His letter!
Blessings on you,
Michele
